NEW YORK (August 31, 2018)—The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) announced that Frederick Living, of Pennsylvania, has met its national standards, achieving AFA’s “Excellence in Care (EIC) Dementia Care Program of Distinction.”

Dementia care settings are eligible to attain this status following an extensive evaluation of staff, procedures, and environment, to assess the level of dementia care and ensure best practices.

“Frederick Living is the embodiment of quality dementia care and operates at the highest level. They are always looking for new ways to improve care and its delivering, benefiting this most vulnerable population of their community,” said Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of AFA. “We are pleased to recognize them with the Excellence in Care distinction.”

To earn this distinction, EIC sites must meet certain standards set forth by AFA focusing on the following three areas: facilitating meaningful living; promoting safety and security in the environment; and achieving overall health and wellness of the care community being serviced.

Eligible to participate in AFA’s Excellence in Care Dementia Care Program of Distinction are:

assisted living residences; skilled nursing facilities; long-term care residential communities; adult day programs; group homes; and senior centers that provide care to individuals living with dementia.

“The entire Frederick Living community is thrilled to be affiliated with the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America through the Excellence in Care accreditation program,” said Katie Reilly, MSG, Assistant Personal Care Administrator of Frederick Living. “The achievement of this accreditation has been a goal of our community for some time, and it’s wonderful to see it come to fruition. As a newly-accredited dementia care specialist community, we have reaffirmed our passion and commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate, person-centered memory care for all of our residents. We look forward to working with the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America on future endeavors to benefit our residents and families.”

Molly Fogel, LCSW, AFA’s Director of Educational and Social Services, said “Frederick Living exemplifies the qualities AFA looks for in awarding EIC distinction: an educated staff, safe environment, and ability to focus on the unique and individualized needs of each person living with the illness.”
