Over $8500 Raise for Hurricane Relief!

September 15, 2017

Frederick Living Reaches Out To Help Hurricane Harvey Victims

Frederick, PA, September 13, 2017

Frederick Living, a continuing care retirement community located on Big Road in Frederick, Montgomery County, started an effort a few weeks ago to collect funds for Hurricane Harvey victims with seed money from the organization of $500 each to go toward two of the organizations actively helping victims of the disaster, The Salvation Army and Mennonite Disaster Service. The outpouring of generosity for our Texas neighbors that followed from residents, staff, board members and friends of Frederick Living has reached over $8,500.00 with mostly small to midsize donations. Residents from both Personal Care and Residential Living, and staff from housekeepers to senior leaders, as well as board members, friends and family, contributed to make this effort possible.

Frederick Living’s mission is: in the spirit of Christian love, Frederick Living cares for and enriches the lives of older adults, while valuing staff, volunteer and community that serve them.   Frederick considers the greater Boyertown/Pottstown/Upper Perkiomen areas as its community but with this effort they were pleased to broaden their community to include those over fifteen hundred miles away as neighbors in need too.  For more information about Frederick Living go to the website: www.frederickliving.org .

Help Frederick Living Support Heifer International

November 13, 2016

Frederick Living Staff and Residents Pass on the Gift!

If you would like to partner with us to make a lasting impact on impoverished families around the world, please make you check out to Frederick Living with Heifer International in the memo line. Sue Reitsma is heading up the project. We will be raising money until Wednesday, November 30th.

Heifer International’s mission is to work with communities to end world hunger and poverty and to care for the Earth.

Dan West was a farmer from the American Midwest and member of the Church of the Brethren who went to the front lines of the Spanish Civil War as an aid worker. His mission was to provide relief, but he soon discovered the meager single cup of milk rationed to the weary refugees once a day was not enough.

And then he had a thought: What if they had not a cup, but a cow?

That “teach a man to fish” philosophy is what drove West to found Heifer International. And now, nearly 70 years later, that philosophy still inspires our work to end world hunger and poverty throughout the world once and for all.

How it Works

We empower families to turn hunger and poverty into hope and prosperity – but our approach is more than just giving them a handout. Heifer links communities and helps bring sustainable agriculture and commerce to areas with a long history of poverty. Our animals provide partners with both food and reliable income, as agricultural products such as milk, eggs and honey can be traded or sold at market.

When many families gain this new sustainable income, it brings new opportunities for building schools, creating agricultural cooperatives, forming community savings and funding small businesses.

Smart Moves For The Future

November 4, 2016

Meeting the needs of our residents is always our first priority here at Frederick Living. With the addition of The Meadows, 55 new cottages in a Pocket Neighborhood setting, a brand new service is now being offered to all residents on campus! We are happy to introduce our new shuttle vehicle, name to be determined, a Polaris GEM 6 passenger electric vehicle!

gem-vehicle-shuttle

Our new electric vehicle offers the luxury of  more typical shuttle vans but leaves a much smaller environmental footprint! The GEM is whisper quiet with zero emissions and low operating costs. It charges in a standard outlet when not in use to be ready for the next run of residents from their cottage or villa to anywhere else on campus they want to go. It is fully enclosed and climate controlled for year round use, can accommodate folks as tall as 6’8″ tall and has safety features to ensure a comfortable ride. The shuttle will transport residents all over campus during the day, and features a storage compartment on the rear for any gear residents may need to transport with them. The hours revolve around meal times and activities to make it easy for residents to access all of the amenities that we offer here at Frederick Living! Currently the shuttle is running on a predetermined schedule and route throughout campus. We will trial this schedule for the next few weeks and welcome any and all feedback!
