Living a Life of Service

Living a Life of Service

Rev. Paul Howells was recently recognized for distinguished leadership to Lutheran Outdoor Ministries (LOM). On Friday, January 12, current LOM leadership hosted a Fireside luncheon for Paul and his wife Carol, celebrating with them the memories and investment they made in the Lutheran camping ministry. I was privileged to share in this affirming event.

It is not surprising that Paul would be recognized for a life of service. He served as President of our own Frederick Living Residents Association (FLRA) for a decade. As President he participated in strategic planning retreats, contributed to board taskforce and committee efforts, officiated at meetings, memorials and ceremonies and provided much valued reassurance and stability during times of change on campus. His listening ear and one to one counsel complement a loving demeanor that comes through from behind the pulpit and around the table. A mind for governance and heart for ministry enable Paul to lead with both competence and credibility.

Self-labeled among the Villains, Carol and Paul are among the earliest Villas residents. They quickly gelled with the Frederick community and mission supporting resident benevolent care, volunteering across the campus, sharing Carol’s love for the outdoors and for outhouses, endearing themselves to our employees and fellow residents. “Thank You,” Paul and Carol, for living out our core values of service to Christ and community.
