Frederick Living Celebrates 120 Years of Service

In 1856 Daniel Bertolet and other leading citizens of Frederick, PA devised a plan to establish the Frederick Institute as a classical day school to prepare men and women for college. The building and the school were the pride of Frederick until the Civil War. Without students, the school closed. In 1896 Reverend N. B. Grubb purchased the property and offered it to the Mennonite Eastern District Conference as a suitable Home for the Aged.

Today, Frederick Living is a leading rehabilitation and continuing care retirement community nestled in the beautiful countryside of Montgomery County in southeastern Pennsylvania. Our focus has been on living well in every aspect of our lives—body, mind, and spirit.

We offer apartments, cottages, and villas in our independent living community. We are in the process of expanding our independent living with the addition of 55 brand new cottages, in a pocket neighborhood design. In our personal care, we offer one bedroom and studio apartments, as well as a secure environment for those in need of memory support. In our nursing and rehabilitation center, we offer short term rehabilitation and long term services.

Rooted in our Mennonite heritage, we honor the dignity and autonomy of each person we’re privileged to serve, regardless of their faith journey.
