“Annie Turner Wittenmyer” with Mike Snyder

May 2 @ 6:30 pm

Annie Turner Wittenmyer was well-educated and strong willed, with a desire to help people. Wittenmyer became nationally famous during the American Civil War through her work as a battlefield nurse, indefatigable raiser of supplies for the Union war effort, and her creation of diet kitchens, a system for providing nourishing food for wounded soldiers. A true force of nature, in a time when women had little or no opportunity for any outlet beyond the home, Wittenmyer saved thousands of lives and improved the quality of countless more. This program is part of our Lifelong Learning Series.
