The Meadows at Frederick Living – Construction Progress

walls of the meadows construction

This past fall, Frederick Living embarked on an expansion plan to add 55 new cottage style homes to our campus. The Meadows at Frederick Living has been a vision of the community for several years, and we are excited to share a progress update with you.

Excavation for the new development began in the fall of 2015 to make way for our first phase of 20 cottages; we currently have only 5 that remain available in this first phase. We are happy to report that the first foundations have been set, and just this week we began vertical construction on our first duplex cottage! The panelized construction style of these homes will allow us to erect the homes at a more rapid pace. Once the home is under roof, our teams of contractors will furnish the electrical and interior design selections chosen by each individual family, giving the homes a personal touch. Those that have reserved their homes are expecting to move later this spring!

With the addition of the new cottage homes also came changes to our common areas in Oaktree Center. If you have visited our community in the past, we invite you to come again to experience our new Dining Experiences: Frederick Bistro, Fireside Dining, and soon to come Freddie’s Corner! You’ll also notice the addition of a brand new parking area to accommodate staff vehicles, allowing for easy event and visitor parking outside of Oaktree Center.

We hope you will come see the exciting changes happening on campus here at Frederick Living soon! Please enjoy the Meadows Construction Progress gallery in the meantime! “Like” us on facebook to see all of the exciting things happening here at Frederick Living on a daily basis!

Employee Spotlight – Celebrating 35 years of Service

Frederick Living is pleased to shine the spotlight on Mary Alice Mack as she celebrates 35 years of service. Mary Alice was born August 24 and was raised on a dairy farm in Perkiomenville. She has an older brother, David. During her high school years, she volunteered at Frederick whenever possible and eventually was hired as a part time nurse’s aid.

After graduating from Perkiomenville School/North Montco Votech School, she became a full time employee. Mary Alice has provided care in many areas: Skilled Nursing, Dining Services, Adult Day Care and Personal Care. She proudly tells everyone that she loves taking care of people. Her goal is to make each person smile; whether it is a pat on the back or kind words. It is such a rewarding job especially in a community where everyone is so caring.

In 1998, she married Jim Mack. They share the love and joy of two daughters, Annie and Cindy.

Outside the community, she is active in church activities at New Hanover Lutheran Church. Camping and going out to eat are also fun pastimes for the Mack’s.

One day she would like to travel but, for now, she anxiously awaits the birth of her first grandchild in March.

We applaud Mary Alice and thank her for her dedication

and loyalty to the staff and residents. She truly helps everyone “live well’ at Frederick living.

The Meadows Ceremonial Groundbreaking

Groundbreaking for Frederick Living’s The Meadows expansion held June 30th

The ceremony launched a unique “Pocket Neighborhood” design

Frederick Living Chief Executive Officer John Hendrickson was joined by representatives from the project’s partners, Barton Partners, RGS Associates, Wagman Construction and Univest Bank and Trust Co.

“We are eager to begin this unique and important expansion to our campus, which puts Frederick Living at the forefront of senior living design trends,” Hendrickson said.

The Meadows is an innovative design based on the “pocket neighborhood” concept that is gaining popularity among architectural pioneers. This design supports a growing number of studies showing that greater social engagement and intellectual stimulation aids mental and emotional wellness, and even translates into longer lifespans.

In “pocket neighborhoods” small groupings of houses around a courtyard or common garden promote a greater sense of community and provide more opportunities for social interaction than the contemporary developments that populate most suburbs.

Phase 1 of The Meadows will feature a 20 cottages , each clustered around and facing a common green space. Spacious front porches bordered by small, private gardens open onto the common area encouraging homeowners to visit and gather with neighbors.

Frederick Living is a leading rehabilitation and continuing care retirement community nestled in the beautiful countryside of Montgomery County in southeastern Pennsylvania. For more than a century, our focus has been on living well in every aspect of our lives—body, mind, and spirit. Rooted in our Mennonite heritage, we honor the dignity and autonomy of each person we’re privileged to serve, regardless of their faith journey. Frederick Living is located at 2849 Big Road, Frederick, PA 19504. For more information,  please call us at 610-754-7878.

A New Art Exhibit Opens at Frederick Living

Christine “Chrissy” Brunner-Hoffman was born in a small town in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Her love of taking pictures started at a young age, along with her love of animals. It wasn’t until later in life that she began to love to travel, anywhere and everywhere.

At a young age of 41 she was faced with Breast Cancer. After fighting a yearlong battle with chemotherapy treatments, she won the battle. Realizing that her life could have been cut short at an early age, she decided to strive to help others that are not so lucky. Whether being struck by illness, the loss of a family member, or perhaps the loss of everything they own, it was time to make a difference.

Being an active member of St. Mark’s Church in Pennsburg, PA, she has participated in various mission trips to areas that have suffered unmentionable devastation. Places like Ocean Springs, Mississippi; Nashville, Tennessee; and Joplin, Missouri just to name a few.

A lifelong goal of hers was to travel to Africa to see the animals, up close and personal, and to talk with the local people and have some understanding of how they live and what they do “without” on a daily basis. That was the trip of a lifetime and from it came many pictures. With the help of friends and family, a collection of her photographs will be on display at Frederick Living during May & June.

The Gallery at Frederick Living is open to the public between the hours of 8 AM-5 PM. A portion of the sales from Christine’s photographs will be donated to the Frederick Living Resident Benevolent Fund.
